In Memory of
Luis Rumbaut
(1949-2025)

In 1973—the same year Ayuda was founded—Luis Rumbaut joined our mission to serve low-income immigrants in the Washington, DC region.

As one of Ayuda’s founding directors, Luis was instrumental in laying the foundation for the compassionate, committed, life-changing work that continues to this day.

His vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice helped shape Ayuda into a place where thousands of immigrants have found safety, dignity, and hope.

In lieu of flowers, Luis’s family invites you to make a gift to Ayuda in his memory.

Your contribution will honor and affirm his legacy by supporting immigrant families with the legal, social, and language access services they need to build secure and thriving futures.

Thank you for celebrating Luis’s life by continuing the work he so passionately championed. His legacy lives on through every life touched by your generosity.

Please share memories/recuerdos  about "the Luis that I knew" along with your generous gift. A comment box to do so will appear with the donation form.

A special evening of remembrance and storytelling, featuring a deeply personal and richly detailed tribute to Luis’ extraordinary journey and enduring legacy, will be held at the GALA Hispanic Theatre in Washington, DC, from 5 to 8 pm on Monday, September 15.
